Six Studio Albums Thus Far
As of the writing of this article, Oasis has released six studio albums with a 7th due later this year. What follows is an overview of each of their six albums to date and a preview of their upcoming 7th album.
Definitely Maybe (1994)
If I had to tell someone to get just one album to understand the appeal of Oasis, I would say get their debut album Definitely Maybe. I believe it is one of the greatest debut albums in rock history. It includes many Oasis classics including “Live Forever,” “Supersonic,” & “Cigarettes & Alcohol.” Oasis went from being nobody to being one of the biggest bands in the UK with this album.
(What’s The Story) Morning Glory? (1995)
This is the album that made Oasis a worldwide hit and to date it’s easily their biggest seller and most popular album in the United States. It includes their biggest hit single “Wonderwall” along with “Don’t Look Back in Anger” and “Champagne Supernova.” It’s sort of the pop-rock counterpart to Definitely Maybe’s rock n roll. If you are more of a “sing along” type than a rock n roller then perhaps you should start off with this album instead.
Be Here Now (1997)
This album has received a lot of criticism from music critics, from fans, and even from the band itself. And I’ll agree that there’s a lot wrong with it. The songs are too long. The production is completely over the top. But that being said, I still love this album. I think in a way it is it’s faults that make it so great. It’s a grandiose album that doesn’t shy away from anything. Completely over the top and loving every minute of it. And I do think the songs are great, even if they are too long.
Understanding Reggae Lyrics
There are millions of Reggae music fans across the world. Reggae music is often sung in the local Jamaican dialect called Patois. However, not all fans of Reggae can speak or understand Jamaican Patois.
Avid fans of Reggae music, who are not Jamaican patois speakers, can attest to the fact that at times there are words in the music that he or she cannot understand. This article will list some Jamaican Patois words frequently found in Reggae music. The meanings of those Patois words will also be given.
Play a Song by Ear
Three years ago I purchased a 300 page course book with cd called “The Secrets To Playing By Ear!” The author of the book, Jermaine Griggs, is the founder of HearandPlay.com. I joined his website embarking on a wonderful journey to learn how to play by ear.
Jermaine’s theory is: “If you can hear it, you can play it.” So, if you can hear the melody in your head, you can play it on your instrument. Coming from a background of reading notes, I would say that playing by ear is difficult at first, unless you were blessed with a special gift like Stevie Wonder! It takes practice to hear the melody of a song, determine it’s key center and know what chords to play in your left hand. I have hunted and pecked out Happy Birthday for hours. Now, I have a road map, a guide if you will to learn how to play by ear!
Playing the Guitar - The History of Ibanez Guitars
Not only does the guitar itself have a rich and varied history but the companies that manufacture them are interesting as well. Everyone writes about the Gibson Les Paul and the Fender Strat but today let’s talk about Ibanez guitars. Ibanez guitars have built a name and reputation for themselves. Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Pat Metheny, Kevin “Noodles” Wasserman of The Offspring all work their magic on Ibanez guitars. Vai designed the Ibanez JEM and Universe electric guitars. Satriani plays an Ibanez JS Series axe. Metheny tools around on an Ibanez PM120 guitar. Wassermann punks out on an Ibanez NDM series guitar. Many more artists have discovered Ibanez instruments.
The company that manufactures Ibanez guitars, Hoshino Gakki of Japan, went through a period of lawsuits brought against it for copying various models of Gibson, Fender and Rickenbacker guitars. I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery after all if you can get through trademark infringement.
